It is Never too Early to begin Career Explorations with Children

I knew at a very early age that I wanted to be a teacher. Throughout my life, I was surrounded by caring, hardworking and knowledgeable teachers who took my progress personally and worked tirelessly to help me reach my potential. I will always be grateful for their sacrifice and dedication. I wanted to be a teacher just like them.

So, while most young people and their parents are more concerned about school and grades, making friends and using the latest technology, I also recommend beginning a discussion on careers. Start with the occupations of family members and friends, have your child talk with or job shadow teachers, doctors, dentists, barbers, hair stylists, mechanics and other professionals within your community. Read about others and help your child conduct age-appropriate research to find out about unusual careers.

Based on the age of the child, more exposure to a wide variety of career options will prove beneficial.

Warning to parents; listen, participate in the learning process and be careful about rendering objections or opinions too early during the exploration phase. Your guidance will be appreciated when decision-making time comes.

In my new book, Fifteen Insider Secrets to Career Success for Teachers I highlighted the most impactful strategies that enhanced my growth and career. This book is valuable to educators and anyone seeking career success. Please stay tuned for publishing information.
